Bicyclers Ride January 31st

Bicycle Ride January 31st

We will travel to the Myakka River State Park. The drive to the park is 33 miles and usually takes about 40 minutes. Entry fee into the park is $6.00 per vehicle For 2-8 people, ($4.00 for single person vehicles). We will drive into the park to the Myakka Outpost and park there. The ride will follow the park road north to the Clay Gully Picnic Area where we will stop and then turn around for the ride back. There are rest rooms at the start and the turn around point. Feel free to bring a lunch or snack to enjoy either at the turn around point or at the end of the ride. This will not be done as a group but as individuals. The ride is 4 miles one way for a total ride of 8 miles. You may extend the ride by enjoying more of the park. The ride is along park roads which include vehicles but has a limited speed limit. The area we ride is lightly trafficked.

The park also offers boat tours of the lake which maybe arranged for at an additional fee. This park offers nice views of alligators and birds. Several of the usual activities are closed due to the hurricane. This includes the Bird Walk, the Canopy Walk and all overnight cabins as well as all back country trails. From what I was told all park roads were under water after the storm but the park informed me they are now clear and ready to ride. Temperatures are supposed to be in the 80s on Tuesday but since most of this ride is shaded and along some lake areas it maybe wise to have a light wind breaker available.
