Adding Pictures and creating new categories in the Photo Gallery

When you are logged in, a box with three tabs is displayed under the current category's pictures if you have permission to upload pictures or create sub-categories in the current Category. If the box with tabs is not available, it may be because the System Admin has not yet opened up the category for uploads. The can be resolved with a quick message to the System Admin.

Adding pictures to an Existing Category one at a time

Click the Upload tab to upload images to the Photo Gallery one at a time.

From the Upload area you can upload new pictures to the selected Category one at a time.

  • The maximum file size and maximum resolution are displayed at the top of the upload area. Your images must be smaller than the maximums displayed.  The file size of your image can be reduced by either reducing the resolution of your image (number of pixels) or by reducing the size. Images displayed on a computer monitor do not need to be high quality.  Additionally, images with a large file size take much longer for users to download, and therefore, it takes much longer for the webpage to load.  Many photo programs have the ability to re-size images. If you do not have the software to do it, the following programs may help:
    • Mass Image Compressor - a free application that compresses the file size and/or reduces the resolution (pixel size) of every image in a specified directory.  There is a preview function that displays what affect the different settings have.
    • PaintNet - a free application that is a full function photo editor.  The resolution (number of pixels) can be changed with the Image Size menu selection. Image quality can be reduced with a Slider when you use Save As.  A preview displays what the image will look like at different quality levels so you can tell how much reduction in quality to use. Warning!!!! Do not click on a green "Download" button. The download page has some advertisements (including green Download buttons that will result in a lot of crap ware that you probably don't want being installed on your computer.)  To download onlythe Paint.NET program, click on a link that looks like this:

When you hit the correct link, you will be taken to one of the Paint.NET mirror download sites where you will see a link that looks like this (again, do notclick on the green Download button):

  • Click Browse to select the image on your computer that you want to upload.
  • You can optionally add a title and/or a short description.
  • Click Start Upload to upload the picture to the current Category.

Adding multiple pictures to an Existing Category at the same time

Click the Multiple Upload tab to upload multiple images to the Photo Gallery at the same time.

  • You must have JavaScript enabled in you browser to do multiple uploads.

  • The number of files uploaded so far and a status bar are displayed at the bottom of the box. An icon at the right of each file provides the upload result and the status column indicates the percent uploaded.  Finally, the green box a the top displays how many files were uploaded in total.
